Le Quator de la Garde Republicaine (1930s-1940s)

The quartet started by Marcel Mule in 1928, regarded as the the first "French style" saxophone quartet: Le Quator consisted of Marcel Mule, Paul Romby, Fernand l'Homme, and Georges Chauvet. Mule's decided to use a soprano instead of an alto for the top voice in the quartet.

Samples came from recordings on Columbia Records, but a compilation of these and other recordings by Marcel Mule and Le Quator can be found on the Clarinet Classics website.
